The Agilent N7786B polarization synthesizer consists of a lithium niobate based high-speed polarization controller and a polarization analyzer, as well as a microcontroller-based drive circuit. As a polarization stabilizer, it provides a stable output polarization state (SOP) even if the input SOP fluctuates and drifts. The stable output signal is guided in a standard single-mode fiber (SMF). As an SOP switch, the N7786B cycles through a series of Sops at speeds in excess of 40 KHz, which corresponds to a cycle time of less than 25 microseconds.
