The R&S® SMR40 signal generator is designed as a continuous wave generator with pulse modulation capability, with a frequency range of 1 GHz to 40 GHz. Through the optional frequency extension of 0.01 GHz to 1 GHz (option B11), the lower limit can be extended to 10 MHz.
The SMR40 stands out from other generators due to its outstanding spectral purity. The advanced frequency synthesis using a decimal N divider enables low SSB phase noise and high spurious suppression, both of which are prerequisites for reliable receiver measurements. The modern microwave filters in the instrument's output path ensure excellent harmonic suppression. This is necessary for obtaining conclusive results in scalar network analysis measurements.
