Compared with the built-in linear polarizer, Keysight 8169A provides polarization synthesis. The quarter-wave plate and half-wave plate are adjusted one by one to create all possible states of polarization in a decisive way. The polarizer generates a polarization linear state with a high extinction ratio. The internal predetermined algorithm of 8169A makes the transmission path from a certain polarization state on the Poingcari sphere to another state to be specified along the orthogonal great circle.
