Agilent 8509B is a lightwave polarization analyzer system, one of the early devices that realize calibrated polarization measurements of optical signals and components. Its core capabilities stem from innovative breakthroughs in hardware, software, and algorithms. Equipped with a four-diode detection scheme covering the wavelength range of 1200 to 1600 nm, it incorporates built-in 1300 nm and 1550 nm single-wavelength Fabry-Perot lasers as well as an automatic three-state polarization generator, while also supporting external single-wavelength or swept-wavelength light sources. This device helps deepen the understanding of polarization properties of lightwave signals and materials, providing support for the development of high-performance optical components, optical systems, and the establishment of efficient testing and manufacturing processes.
-
Calibrated Polarization Measurement: Supports real-time calibrated measurements of polarization state and degree of polarization (DOP) of optical signals. The DOP measurement uncertainty is ±2% in 1280-1340 nm and 1470-1580 nm bands, ±5% in 1200-1280 nm, and ±3% in 1580-1600 nm.
-
Polarization State Analysis: Enables comprehensive polarization state analysis of optical signals and devices with a measurement rate of over 1000 per second.
-
PMD Measurement Function: Features two automated polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) measurement methods, including wavelength scanning and Jones matrix eigenanalysis.
-
PDL Measurement Function: Enables fast and automatic measurement of polarization-dependent loss (PDL) in optical components, with an average linearity of ±0.6 dB and average measurement uncertainty of ±15%.
-
Fiber Alignment Support: Provides polarization-maintaining fiber alignment function, compatible with 9/125 μm fiber type.
