The HP 8153A light wave multimeter host provides slots for two insertion modules. Since modules can be combined in any configuration, the instrument can be used as a 1/2 channel power meter, 1/2 channel light source, a loss test set, or even as a return loss test set. Four different power sensor modules (e.g. 8153A) range in sensitivity from -70 dBm to -110 dBm, covering a wavelength range from 450 nm to 1700 nm. Each is individually calibrated across its entire wavelength range and can be traced back to NIST and PTB to obtain accurate optical insertion losses for both single-mode and multimode components. The external power sensor (optical head) covers a power range from +27 to -90 dBm. They are particularly suited to the highest requirements for absolute accuracy, such as calibration services, and open beam measurements.
