The 8656B is a 990 MHz RF generator from Agilent. An RF generator is a tool used by engineers to produce sinusoidal outputs when testing electronic devices. The output will automatically change its frequency or scan between frequencies. "Scanning" is a complete cycle of frequency change. Engineers use RF signal generators as test devices, primarily to measure the response of filters, amplifiers, and electrical components. The Agilent 8656B provides precise output control. In addition, its modulation capabilities include simultaneous and hybrid modulation modes from internal (400 Hz and 1 kHz tones) and external sources.
