The General Photonics MPC-202 is an advanced multifunction polarization controller, specifically designed to meet the performance testing requirements of coherent optical receivers. This instrument integrates the award-winning PolaRite™ II/III all-fiber polarization controller module with proprietary control algorithms to deliver a variety of polarization control and modulation functions. Its core "Tornado" quasi-uniform rate polarization scrambling mode generates high-speed, challenging State of Polarization (SOP) variations for extreme stress testing of a coherent receiver's polarization tracking capability. It is an ideal tool for laboratory characterization of polarization-related parameters and performance testing of fiber optic interferometers, sensor systems, and RF photonics systems.
Key Features
Multiple Polarization Control & Modulation Modes: Provides quasi-uniform rate SOP scrambling (SOP change rate >360 krad/s), random-rate scrambling with Rayleigh distribution, discrete-state scrambling, SOP modulation with sine, square, and triangle waveforms, and 4-channel manual polarization control (0-4π per channel).
Core "Tornado" Scrambling Mode: Achieves a high SOP scrambling rate of up to 60,000 revolutions per second (more than 360 krad/s) with a narrow rate distribution clustered around the highest rate, emulating the most difficult SOP variation conditions for communication systems.
Excellent Optical Performance: Features very low Insertion Loss (<0.6 dB with connectors), Polarization Dependent Loss (<0.1 dB with connectors), Polarization Mode Dispersion (<0.2 ps with connectors), and Activation Loss (<0.1 dB with connectors) to ensure testing accuracy.
