The Agilent 11896A is a high-performance polarization controller designed for optical communication, fiber sensing, and optical testing applications. It adjusts the polarization state (not power) of light signals across a wide wavelength range (1250–1640 nm, with extended support for 980 nm in some models). Utilizing a fiber-loop design and motorized/manual adjustment mechanisms, it generates all possible polarization states while maintaining minimal insertion loss variation (±0.002 dB), significantly enhancing measurement accuracy for polarization-dependent loss (PDL) and gain in power-sensitive applications. Typical use cases include testing polarization-sensitive devices such as EDFAs, isolators, modulators, and interferometers.
