Bristol Instruments' 238 series optical wavemters are designed for accurate wavelength characterization of tunable emitting lasers, DFB lasers and VCsels used in applications such as fiber optic communications, data storage and 3D sensing.

Accuracy is guaranteed through continuous calibration
The 238 optical wavemeter uses proven Michelson interferometer-based technology to accurately measure the wavelength of a continuous laser.
Two versions are available. Type 238A is the most accurate, with an accuracy of ± 0.3 pm. For less stringent test requirements, the 238B system is a less expensive alternative with a wavelength accuracy of ± 1.0 pm.
Continuous calibration using the built-in wavelength standard preserves the long-term performance of the 238 optical wavemeter. In addition, each 238 system is rigorously tested using a laser source that can be traced back to NIST standards.
Designed for convenience and durability
The operation of 238 optical wavemeter is very simple.
The optical signal enters Type 238 through the FC (UPC or APC) fiber optic connector on the front panel. The system's high sensitivity results in input power requirements as low as -25 dBm (3 μW). Automatic attenuation instantly adjusts the signal for optimal performance.
A convenient touch screen display on the front panel of the instrument controls the 238 system and reports the measured wavelength and power. Measurement data can also be sent using the SCPI command library via a standard USB or Ethernet interface or optionally a GPIB interface
