The LUNA PMD-1000 is an innovative polarization mode dispersion (PMD) generator, also known as PMDProTM. It can precisely generate first-order and second-order PMD. The first-order PMD can reach up to 180 ps, and the second-order PMD can reach 8100 ps². The device is equipped with an automatic polarization controller and two polarization testers, which can monitor and regulate the polarization state (SOP) and polarization degree (DOP). The polarization controller can automatically align and maintain the input SOP at a 45° angle with the main axis of the differential group delay (DGD) component to obtain the first-order PMD effect. It can also automatically adjust and maintain the input SOP according to the feedback from the polarization tester, so as to maximize or minimize the output DOP, to test the PMD effect under different conditions. In addition, it has the function of depolarization and a certain polarization state control function.
