Agilent 8164A/B is the main unit of the optical wave measurement system. The 8164A supports a full range of adjustable laser light source modules and each module of the 8153A and 8163A optical wave multi-purpose instrument series. The 81640A is an adjustable laser light source module that can be installed in the bottom slot of the 8164A main unit. Its wavelength range is from 1510nm to 1640nm, capable of simultaneously covering the C- and L- frequency bands, with a maximum output power of 4dBm.

Multiple interfaces facilitate connection and automated operation: The 8164A has GPIB and PC card interfaces, enabling connection to various control devices. It is also equipped with configurable hardware input and output trigger ports, capable of operating in an automated environment. Additionally, it includes a "3.5" floppy disk drive, VGA port (RS232C serial interface), keyboard interface, and parallel printer port.
Precise wavelength tuning: The tunable laser source modules such as 81640A have an internal wavelength control loop, with high tuning accuracy, enabling continuous power without step tuning, suitable for testing critical DWDM devices.
Output power adjustable and wide range: The 81640A module has two optical output ports. One can transmit ultra-low self-emitted radiation (SSE) signals for accurate speech measurement, etc.; the other can provide greater optical power and allows for power adjustment of more than 60dB through the built-in optical attenuator.
Stable polarization state: The 81640A module has a panda PMF output port, which can provide clear polarization state to ensure constant measurement conditions on the waveguide device, and the PMF optical cable can conveniently connect external optical modulators.
