The N4377A Lightwave Detector is a self-contained photoelectric converter powered by the USB interface, and also has a built-in optical power meter function. Using the magnitude and phase response calibration data stored on this converter, a vector network analyzer (eg PNA, PNA-X) can eliminate its influence on optical transmitter or modulator measurements, enabling accurate S21 parameter measurements in the photonic domain. The converter's low inherent noise and high bandwidth are useful for electronic spectrum analyzers performing laser linewidth and modulation spectrum measurements.
