Keithley 6487 Picoammeter/Voltage Source Product Advantages:

The 5-digit 6487 picoammeter/voltage source improves the measurement capability of the acclaimed 6485 and adds a 500V high-resolution source. It has higher accuracy and faster rise time than 6485, as well as the damping function used with capacitive elements. This economical and effective instrument has 8 current measurement ranges and a high-speed auto-ranging function. It can measure currents from 20fA-20mA, with a measurement speed of 1000 readings per second, and an output voltage of 200μV-505V.

The 6487's 10fA resolution, sensitivity, voltage sweep, and alternating voltage resistance measurement make it very suitable for the characterization of low-current devices. Although it uses the latest current measurement technology, it is still much cheaper than other instruments with similar functions [such as optical power meters, tera-ohmmeters, competitive picoammeter products or user-designed solutions]. Since the 6487 is equivalent to the price of a high-end digital multimeter, basically any laboratory or production workshop can afford to use the 6487 for pico-amp measurement.

Lower input pressure drop and higher accuracy

Digital multimeters generally use shunt meter circuits to measure current, and 6487 is a feedback picoammeter. This design reduces the voltage burden by several orders of magnitude, making the input voltage drop on the lower measurement range less than 200μV. The lower input voltage drop makes the 6487 function more like an ideal ammeter than a digital multimeter, so it can achieve high-accuracy current measurement even in circuits with extremely low output voltages.
